If at any time loss, damage, delay, expenses, or litigation arises against the airline for damages caused by your animal, you will be held accountable for the cost incurred. The Spirit Airlines pet travel policy ensures that your pet is healthy, well-mannered, and ready for air travel.

Traveling with Pets in the Cabin: Rules & Guidelines

Spirit pet policy allows certain pets to travel in the cabin for an additional fee, to the United States or between the United States and its territories.

• Accepted: Domesticated dogs and cats. Few locations permit small house birds (such as parrots, finches, canaries, and parakeets) and rabbits for flight to or from Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

• Not Accepted: The Spirit Airline animal policy restricts farm poultry, waterfowl, game birds, birds-of-prey, and flightless birds.

• Carrier Requirements: The pet needs to stay in an approved carrier at all times and must fit under the seat, with maximum measurements: 18" x 14" x 9". Your pet must be able to stand up and turn around comfortably.

• Limitations: According to Spirit Airlines pet rules Up to two small animals may travel in the same container. Only six pets are permitted in the cabin on any one flight. 

• Important Notes: Spirit Air pet policy may restrict your pet immediately if it disturbs other passengers or behaves offensively. Spirit does not carry pets in the cabin on international flights except for service animals.

How much Spirit Charge for carrying a pet on flight?

Some countries may require specific types of paperwork, such as health certificates. Spirit does not consider any other kind of animal to be a service animal. To qualify, your dog must: 

• Fit on your lap if smaller than a 2-year-old child, or within your foot space without blocking any exits. 

• Remain well-behaved and under your control at all times. 

• Do not act aggressively or disruptively. 

Spirit permits two service dogs per guest. If space is not available, you may need to purchase an additional seat or consider a later flight. The form of Transportation meant for Service Animals according to the Department of Transportation, must be filed for at least 48 hours before your flight to enable the service dog to accompany you, or in an instance when any reservation is made less than 48 hours before departure, the form may be submitted there at the airport.

What About Emotional Support Animals?

Animals providing emotional support and animals under training can be transported at the owner's risk as pets and must meet in-cabin pet criteria, including dimensions, animal weight, and behavior. A pet fee will be charged unless waived for Gold members.
